Yarn Shop Happenings!

Fiber Fusion

It’s October and we all know what that means—it’s time for Fiber Fusion October 20-21, at the fairgrounds in Monroe. Our own Sweet Judy has designed a beautiful wrap that will debut at the show. Along with that, we’ve put together some lovely kits in fun colors for quick knits and great gifts. You’re going to love them. Come and meet the sheep, check out some amazing dyers and spinners, and of course stop by our booth. It’s a whole lot of fiber goodness at the fair. Those Crisp Days of Fall KAL and CAL

Now remember that beautiful shawl I was talking about? It’s our fall knit-a-long. Join us Mondays from 1-3 pm, for help making this great new design. November 5, you’ll learn about chart reading. November 19, Judy will take you through brioche set-up (you must already know how to Brioche knit), and December 3, she’ll be offering extra help and demonstrating the I-cord bind-off. At the end you’ll wind up with something lovely to keep you warm this winter.

Can’t wait a few weeks for some fiber inspiration?

Mindfulness by Elena Fedotova—our fall crochet-a-long— is now on display in the shop. The shawl looks amazing in Malabrigo Sock, and it’s a free download on the Malabrigo website. We have many fingering weights to choose from. The CAL will be Thursday afternoons, from 1-3 pm. (New Dates) November 1, we’ll cover magic ring, using a chart in conjunction with directions, and when to go your own way on a pattern. November 15, we will be practicing more chart reading, surface design, and decreasing across multiple stitches. November 29, get tips on finishing or come with your completed project, and we’ll block it together.

Sign-ups are starting now.

Each KAL and/or CAL session will be $5 for personalized instruction and good conversation.

What’s New?

We’ve been adding a little of this and a little of that to the shelves lately. There are some truly beautiful yarns out there.

Looking for something soft and fuzzy? We have Louisa Harding’s Amitola, a brushed mohair/cotton/wool blend, in a beautiful variegated DK. But you’re looking for something really big

and squishy; we have Big Freakin’ Wool, a jumbo Australian wool blend, for those chunky knits everybody wants. If you’re searching for something cozy in the colors of fall, Noro Ito fits the bill. And we just started carrying Gedifra’s Lana Mia, a fun fingering with pretty striping, and Cuor Di Merino 120, a fluffy chainette in both solids and gradients. OK, so what you’re really looking for is a cozy, go-to sweater. Juniper Moon Farm’s Patagonia is just what you need. It comes in subdued colors at a great price. Made of 100% organic merino, it’s good for the environment, too.

Holiday Knitting and Crocheting

Want to make a hat for everyone in your family? Megan recommends Tensfield by Martina Behm. This hat can be knitted with any yarn, at any gauge. You cast on and knit until it reaches the circumference of your head, then you move on to clever shaping and construction. It’s easy enough work on when your chatting with friends, but challenging enough to keep you interested. Check it out; and then come by. We’ve got some yarn for you.

Coming Soon

The 6th Annual Yarn Tasting—Quintessential Knits birthday celebration and customer appreciation— is just around the corner. Judy has a few extra special surprises up her sleeve just for you. We’ve planned two fun evenings November 30 and December 1. Sign-ups will be coming soon along with all the details.

Have you noticed that yoke sweaters are a major thing?

They are literally everywhere. And yes, yes you can make your own. We have faith in you. And come January, Megan will be guiding you through the process. This is more of a coaching session rather than a formal class, but spots fill up quickly. So clear your calendar for Wednesday mornings, 10-noon, January 9, 16, and 30. Cost will be $10 per session.

ATTENTION! - WE HAVE NEW FALL/WINTER HOURS

MONDAY - SATURDAY 10:00AM - 5:00PM
