Yarns to fill a HOLE...

We hope you've been enjoying the little bit of sunshine we've seen peeking through the drizzly, rainy, misty, foggy weather we've been experiencing here in the beautiful PNW. It's been a bit dreary for some of us which makes all the colorful yarn in our lives a decidedly happy spot.

We've had some new yarn additions to the shop and we're showcasing them here. It always helps to know what brands a yarn shop carries so when looking for a particular yarn line or searching for yarn to fit a pattern, you'll know what options we can offer you.

We are constantly trying to make sure we carry the things fiber artists are in need of and sometimes we discover holes in our inventory which would benefit from some bolstering.

Fourteen by Juniper Moon Farms

One of those items has been yarn in an aran-weight. We feel like all the hat patterns lately have been designed in aran-weight yarn. We swatched with this beautiful yarn before bringing it in and now we want big squishy cardigans out of Fourteen. Fantasy knitting has filled my closet with them. :)

Fourteen comes in eleven colors (we are currently carrying nine), has an amazingly soft squishy factor, weighs almost nothing, shows off texture well and feels so good to work with. This yarn is a blend of merino and cashmere which gives it the softness and chain-plied which gives it warmth and the airy squishiness we love.

Of course, we had to knit a hat out of it!! The pattern is the July Hat by Courtney Kelley and is part of the Year of Hats by Kelbourne Woolens. All twelve hats are free and call for either Worsted or Aran-weight yarns. Fourteen would work for both.

Cascade Yarns

We recently brought in Cascade Yarns. We want to encourage our customers in their desires to expand their knitting repertoire, but sometimes the cost of the yarn can prohibit creating larger items such as sweaters. We feel like Cascade Yarn helps fill this hole in our shop.

We carry Cascade 220. Cascade 220 superwash, Heritage sock yarn, Heritage Prints, Heritage Wave, and Cascade 220 Wave. If we don't carry a color you're looking for, we are always happy to order it.

WIP Update

I recently finished a beautiful pair of socks out of Spindle Warps Sock yarn. We no longer carry this colorway, but we do stock other colors. I mean who doesn't wanna knit a pair of socks out of a colorway named Thanos loves to knit!?

The sock pattern is called Scattered Pearls and is part of the Hello Summer Sock Set by Summer Lee. My changes? I used an afterthought heel by Lara Neel which is my go-to favorite called the thumb-joint-hat-top-heel which is found in this free sock pattern called Fork in the Road socks.

And then since I was having so much success finishing projects, I immediately cast on two new ones. According to Kermit the Frog, I'm allowed one more cast on!

I cast on the Mama Vertebrae for a quick, easy and useful cardigan out of one of my favorite yarns in the shop: Elemental Affects Cormo Sport. Just fyi, I am not pregnant. :) The Mama Vertebrae is not just for pregnant mamas. The idea with this pattern is you are knitting a sweater that basically covers your arms, shoulders and back making it a great cardigan for pregnant bellies, hot flashes, pairing it with an over-sized shawl or scarf, or for transitioning into warmer weather. I'm excited to have this wardrobe staple.

I also cast on the DRK Everyday Socks by Andrea Mowry out of some handspun yarn I made eons ago. For the spinners out there, Andrea Mowry just started a Spin-a-long, knit-a-long involving these socks. Judy and I have jumped in headfirst. We're suckers for things involving fiber, spinning and socks. Watch Andrea's video about the #DRKspinittoknititkal for information about what it entails and how to join. The more, the merrier. Need some fiber infusions? Spindle Warps also dyes beautiful fibers - we have these merino silk blends available in the shop.

We're always up to something fun when it comes to yarn. We hope you are too. We'd love to hear about your last three cast-ons. Happy Knitting!

Judy & Megan
