littleBIGsheep

Reminder: We are closed March 7-8 (Monday & Tuesday) this upcoming week for Inventory. We'll be back to normal hours on Wednesday the 9th.

We have in our store a new line of yarn. It's beautiful but limited.

little Big Sheep was slotted to be introduced at the 2020 Vogue Knitting Live. This small batch yarn was another yarn adventure by Cathy (the owner of Intrepid Otter) and her colleagues. The yarn is a beautiful 2-ply Pacific Northwest Shetland - raised, spun and dyed all right here in the PNW.

Noone could have foreseen all the challenges that came our way these past two years, and because of this, the small batch yarn little Big Sheep never got off the ground. Quintessential Knits has the entire inventory line now in our shop with the hope that you will love it as much as we do.

The majority of the yarn is the natural color of the sheep and comes in 6 shades from a chocolate brown to a bright natural, mostly fingering and DK weights, with a smaller amount of worsted weight offered. The skeins vary in weight and are priced accordingly per gram.

In addition to the natural colors, there are a smattering of dyed colors in full skeins as well as quite a few mini skein sets for small colorwork projects like hats, mittens or for adding a border to sweaters and sleeves. The mini skein sets have either three (3) or five (5) colors.

This 2-ply Shetland yarn will be perfect for color work and woolly projects such as the Easwas hat or the Funyin hat, both by Kate Davies. In fact, most of Kate Davies hats would be beautiful in this yarn, assuming we have the correct weights needed.

little BIG sheep is truly a beautifully soft shetland yarn, much softer than what we normally associate shetland yarn as. You'll just need to come in and touch it to judge for yourself.

Mark Your Calendar for an Intrepid Otter Bin Show

On March 25th & 26th (Friday & Saturday) we will have the remainder of Intrepid Otter's stock at the shop. Why a bin show? Stock is limited so we didn't want to call it a trunk show. These are items not currently stocked at our shop - either we don't have room for them, or there isn't enough of the item to dedicate space in the shop for it.

What will be included: lace alpaca, mohair, fingering weight mini skeins in packs of 3/5/10, sock singles, gradient cakes both in sock & DK, tweed in both fingering & aran weight, DK, single-ply worsted, bulky, fiber braids, batts, silk top, and all the Stripes balls (lots of color variations!)

All items will be set up in the front of the store for these two days. Long-time fans can grab some of their previous favorites and Intrepid Otter newbies can explore her gorgeous colors both bright and muted and her Stripes balls which are fun and fabulous.

These Stripes balls aren't just for knitting socks. I just finished knitting the Bright Axis tee with one of her Stripes balls paired with Studio Q sport for the body! Try a shawl like Daring Double, sleeves for a sweater,

or these colorful mittens. All these ideas are found in the book Knit Happy with Self-Striping Yarn: Bright, Fun and Colorful Sweaters and Accessories Made Easy by Stephanie Lotven.

Enjoy the sunshine and your knitting!

Judy & Megan
